Reiki is the Japanese word for the all including and all penetrating life force. The word Reiki consists of the Japanese characters Rei and Ki. Rei means universal or without limits and Ki means Life energy or vital power. So a good definition is universal life energy. Reiki-energy is actually the life energy that´s present in and surrounding every living creature (plant, human and animal).

    Reiki is a natural therapy where the healing life energy is transmitted by laying on of the hands. The Reiki-practitioner lets the energy flow through his/her hands en places them on the different chakra´s on the body of the client. The life  energy flows through the Reiki-practitioner. So the practitioner is not giving away her/his own energy to the client, but passes through the life energy from a never ending source.

    Sometimes Reiki is referred to when talking about ´laying on of the hands´ or ´spiritual healing´. The Japanese Ki is the same as chi in Chinese, prana in Sanskrit and corresponds with the concept light for christians.
